Our Process

The design process for a given project can vary depending on a number of factors however simply put, the process is either two stages or three. Most single dwelling jobs, renovations and extensions can be completed in two stages, these are Design Development and Working Drawings. Some jobs require a third stage which is Town Planning, when required this stage sits between Design Development and Working Drawings.

Design Development

The Design Development Stage is the first part of the process for all projects, this stage is broken into the following steps.
Here, we either meet in person or online depending on certain factors, we discuss what it is you want to achieve, the project budget and talk about different options that might be applicable to your situation. Our main goal from this meeting is to better understand your lifestyle, family needs, design preferences and space requirements to ensure we design according to what is important to you.

Town Planning

Town Planning can be required for a number of reasons, some of which include Dual Occupancy Projects, Medium Density Projects or if the site is in an area with certain council overlays. The steps for Town Planning are.
It is always good practice to meet with a Planner from council to discuss the project, concept plans developed during the Design Development Stage are usually fine for this initial discussion. The Planner will give general advice during this meeting that can be used to develop the design further with the aim of a smoother run through the Planning System.

Working Drawings

The working drawings are the plans that are used for builder quotes, building permits and construction. They are a full set of the plans and details required to ensure things are built in accordance with all government regulations, codes and the Australian Standards.
This is the first set of working drawings which get completed up to a stage where external consultants such as engineers can start working on the project.
